About Kongwei Ying

I design and engineer the creation of AI and spatial computing apps for people and businesses.

I do this through my professional and personal experience as a software engineer, marketer, designer, product manager, and entrepreneur.

I have an interest in biology, biomechanics, psychology, history, meditation, metaphysics.

My experience

  • I created, designed and marketed Natural Scientific Calculator for iOS and Android which got over 1 million downloads organically on a $150 marketing budget.
  • I worked at Google as a Marketing Manager in SMB Marketing.
  • I worked at Microsoft as a Software Engineer in the Office team.
  • I later received offers to work as product manager and software engineer from various big tech companies. I declined these offers to pursue my own more well-rounded path of development outside of the pigeonholing associated with traditional roles.
  • I also ran a small software consultancy called Kairos Studios, that built apps for various businesses and startups, where I worked with my university friends.

My current focus

Software

  • Kairos Lifemap - A life guide and superapp that helps creators and creatives build their dream life
  • Natural UI - An engine for creating spatial computing apps using 3D game engines rather than traditional 2D layout engines
  • Natural Scientific Calculator 2 - A second version of a scientific calculator I created many years ago

Hardware

  • Kairos Inkboard - A 3D virtualised keyboard that's intuitive and ergonomic to use
  • Kairos Paprus - An ergonomic stand that turns any laptop into a portable creative workstation

Apps for clients

I freelance as an all-in-one software engineer, designer and product manager to help people and businesses build their own tools and apps.

I bring my integrated technical engineering abilities, design sensitivity and business understanding to the table; having an understanding of these areas allows me to go beyond what an ordinary outsourced "dev shop" offers. I'll be able to push back on ideas and contextualise requests in light of business objectives instead of just blindly coding up what's requested.

Where I'm based

I primarily live in Australia, with periods of the year spent in China.
